Expedition Amundsen 2017

Expedition Amundsen is probably my favorite race. In 2017 I shot it for the fifth time.

Expedition Amundsen is often called «The world`s hardest Expedition Race». And it might just be right.

The race follows the path of the explorer Roald Amundsen – the same route as he used to prepare for conquering the South Pole. Amundsen never managed to cross the plateau and had to seek shelter due to bad weather. Later he said that the Hardangervidda mountain plateau was just as hard, of not harder than reaching the South Pole.

100k across the vast Hardangervidda mountain plateau, pulling all your gear, food and supplies in a 40kg sled and there is absolutely no assistance unless in an emergency. The weather is cold. Down to -25c is not unusual. Wind and heavy snowfall is also something you most likely will encounter.
